DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Our flight from Manila was full of passengers eager to attend the Araw ng Dabaw festivities. Marco Polo Hotel was buzzing with guests because Kapamilya Karavan was in town to make this fun-filled weekend more colorful. ABS-CBN Regional Network Group (RNG) flew in the cast of Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin: Coco Martin and Maja Salvador, with Ron Morales and Erik Santos.

In an exclusive coverage with ABS-CBN corporate communication manager Kathy Solis, we witnessed how security personnel stood ready to protect thousands of men, women and children from overeager fans who might forcibly break the barriers to get a glimpse of their favorite stars at SM City Davao Parking Lot.

Everyone screamed when Erik performed OPM songs. The crowd got a closer look at the Prince of Pop when he went down the stage. Ron serenaded the audience. He elicited shrieks when he threw his shirt to the crowd.

erik santosLONDON – Two of the brightest stars in the Philippines joined forces in their first ever back-to-back concert in front of an ecstatic international audience here.

Singers Christian Bautista and Erik Santos captivated hundreds of fans at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, delivering rousing performances of OPM (Original Pilipino Music) classics and contemporary Western hits.

The event, dubbed as “Champions of the Heart”, was the first ever concert to feature Bautista and Santos together as headliners. The singers performed several duets, as well as solo performances of covers and original songs.

“This was supposed to be done in Manila, but it didn’t happen,” Santos told the crowd.

Bautista added: “That’s right. It’s our first back-to-back concert, and you’re the first to see it.”

Both acts signed copies of their merchandise at the end of the concert, attracting a long queue of fans who were eager to meet their idols.

“It’s really exciting to see those Filipino artists performing, especially here in Europe, so I’m here to support them,” said one elated fan.

Another one added: “It’s always nice to see these young artists. It makes me feel young, and it’s nice to support them.”

The “champions” were joined by comedian Pooh, who tickled the fans with funny anecdotes and his own brand of acerbic quips. The “Banana Split” actor performed comedic songs as part of his routine, as well as joining Bautista and Santos for the finale.

They were also supported by a number of young British Filipino artists, who each opened the show with their rendition of chart-topping songs.

Bautista and Santos emerged in 2003 from the first season of ABS-CBN talent search “Star in a Million.” Both of them have since conquered the hearts of millions of fans, each working successfully as a singer, actor, model and television presenter.

Bautista also proved popular in the rest of Southeast Asia, carving a decent following in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

Champions of the Heart toured in Europe through London, Leicester, Vienna, Paris and Milan.

MILAN, Italy – It was the last leg of the Champions of the Heart concert tour in Europe and was a swooping success in Milan last Sunday, March 6, 2011.

The Centro Culturale Filipino in Via Toffeti, 75, may not be the best concert venue compared to previous ones but was jam-packed by Milan-based Pinoys and others from Biella, Como, Torino, etc.

Concert promoter and producer Direck Renrick Andrin of RN Entertainment was surprised at the presence of the approximately 2,000 busy Pinoys in Milan.

The gate was scheduled to open at 2 p.m. but as early as 10 a.m. people started to arrive to line up for best seats.

Pinoy shining stars in Italy like Zendryl Lagrana, Abegail Dorado, the singing hair stylist “Sheboom” and some young talents, entertained the audience as they waited for Christian Bautista, Erik Santos and Pooh to perform.

Overwhelmed by the warm acceptance, the show lasted for more than 3 hours as Bautista and Santos serenaded the audience with their timeless pieces and Pooh provided laughter and fun for everyone.

Bautista’s minor scratch on the neck by an excited fan did not stop him from approaching the audience as he sang. The two young balladeers captivated the hearts of the young audience.

Pooh’s ability is not limited to make people laugh. He also has the power to make them emotional.

After the hit of the concert, the RN Entertainment now plans to bring in some more Kapamilya talents. Andrin said they are now preparing for a bigger project not only for Filipinos in Milan but in Europe in the next few months.

Meeting My Idol in Milan

Meeting My Idol in Milan
by: ESFO Ralph

I first saw Erik Santos when he joined ‘Star In A Million’. I was amazed with his voice then I told myself na sya ang bet ko. Sinubaybayan ko sya hanggang sa manalo na. Halos sya lang lagi ang pinapanood ko sa ASAP. Nung una di ako makapanood ng mga shows nya because I was too young to do that. Then the time came na kailangan ko na pumunta dito sa Milan. I found that his voice is really awesome. Then I came back here in Milan to go back to school. Halos every other day napasok ako sa ESFO site and every day check ko ang ESFO Facebook. Lagi ako nag memessage noon kay Erik to say that he is my idol, then one day I opened my facebook, I have a friend request from Erik. I was shocked, I never expected that Erik Santos will add me.

At dumating na ung pinaka hihintay kong moment na makapunta siya dito. Nung una sabi ng producer, October daw then na move ng February then March. Sabi ko di na yata tuloy kasi pangatlong beses na na move. But still I’m hoping that he will come here. Nung sinabi na sa TCF commercial ung show date, tumawag agad ako para bumili ng VIP ticket. Wala raw meet and greet, so I contacted Tita Bam & Miss Joan of ESFO. They sent me a picture for the banner na pinagawa ko agad kahit mahirap maghanap dito sa Milan ng ganun. I was so excited nung makuha ko na ung banner only to find out na baka bawal and baka daw magalit ung manonood. Yung director ng show though, said na pwede naman daw. The day came, moment na namin to see my idol. The venue was so crowded. Walang pirmahan because sobrang dami nga tao kaya nakiusap kami sa staff na makita si Erik to give my gift personally. They said sumunod na lang kami sa mall to see them. We saw Miss Dhang sa labas ng mall then we asked her to see Erik. Pumasok kami sa mall to see him then when he saw me, he asked me kung ako ba daw si Ralph. I said yes and nice to meet you. He thanked me for the effort then we had pictures. I’m so thankful because he is so nice and kind dahil pinasalamatan nya ako during the concert. My friends heard na ako daw yung pinasalamatan ni Erik before he sang. That was a dream come true for me. Thanks to Tita Bam and Miss Joan for the kindness, hope to meet you soon. You’re the best ESFO family!

VIENNA, Austria – After their successful concert in other parts of Europe, Erik Santos, Christian Bautista and Pooh wowed audiences in Vienna on March 2 for their next stop in their European concert tour.

The concert hall at the UCI Kino, Millennium City was filled with Filipinos, Austrians and Indonesians who all wanted to witness ‘Champions of the Heart’ with ace comedian Pooh.

It was the first time that the 3 ABS-CBN talents performed live in Austria.

“We attribute the success of our ‘Champions of the Heart Concert’ in Austria and in other parts of Europe to all of our sponsors and to all of our kababayans here, who have given us a warm welcome and continue to support us in our endeavors,” Bautista told the audience.

Ericson Cruz Oliva, producer of the Vienna concert, told ABS-CBN News, “With this once in a lifetime concert of the high-caliber and famous Pinoy talents–Christian Bautista, Erik Santos and Pooh–I am very much overjoyed by the support and enthusiasm of our kababayans here in Vienna. The concert hall was fully jam-packed. Ibig sabihin, we have the full support of the Filipinos here. In return, we make sure that our events get bigger and better, bringing them even closer to home.”

Santos and Bautista captivated the hearts of the Filipinos and Austrians with their remarkable performance. Adding more spice and laughter to the event was the marvelous comedian Pooh, whose biting wit and spot-on punch lines really tickled the funny bones of the crowd. He brought endless laughter to the crowd.

“Watching The Filipino Channel (TFC) and being a subscriber, I have watched countless shows and news from this network on my free time. A friend from Vienna told me that there would be a concert with the popular celebrities of ABS-CBN talents in Vienna. The show was great. Christian, Erik and Pooh were excellent in their performance. I was extremely satisfied with their show and it was indeed a wonderful experience,” a TFC subscriber from Upper Austria, who travelled 5 hours to Vienna for the concert, told ABS-CBN News.

The Filipino Channel (TFC), one of the main sponsors of the European concert tour, is committed to go beyond boundaries to bring true Pinoy talent and entertainment to a wider global audience, connecting and nurturing relationships with and among Filipinos worldwide.

Aries Fortuna, TFC Area Sales Manager in Austria, contended, “Through grand events like these, we are able to reach out not just to our TFC subscribers but also to the many Filipinos who have chosen to live abroad and hopefully, even in our own small way, bring them closer to the Philippines once again.”
