Philippines’ best artists perform at Rizal’s 150th birthday

J.P. Ang Gig ni Rizal, Awards and Musical Revue is the biggest presentation by the CCP to be held at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo where performing groups from all over the country as well as esteemed Filipino singers such as Erick Santos, Bamboo, and the maestro Ryan Cayabyab come together to honour the Great Filipino Artist, Jose P. Rizal by way of musical, dance, and theatrical performances.

QUEZON CITY, June 17 — Artists coming from various disciplines have come up with a way to honour the national hero, Jose P. Rizal in his 150th birth anniversary.

Celebrated only once every 50 years, the national pride’s legacy is being remembered through an array of presentations prepared by several performing artists in the Philippines.

The last of the three-day free tribute by artists is on June 17, 2011, Friday. Available for the enjoyment of the people is a special program, a film, and a mural exhibit all held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). The special program, Rizal Birth Centennial Celebration, featuring musical, dance, and theatrical presentations is a collaboration of NCCA, NHCP, PHSA, TP, PCGE, AMRSP, and other prominent organizations. Award-winning director, Eddie Romero’s Noli Me Tangere movie adaptation will be shown in multi-episodes screened in succession from 9:30 am to 4 pm in Tanghalang Manuel Conde. Also on its last day is the mural exhibit by Pilipinas Street Plan on Rizal where the public can participate in the mural by contributing images and visual insights on Rizal and modern day heroism.

Also in another venue, a tribute exhibit was organized by the Samahang Kartonista ng Pilipinas. Haberdey ni Pepe, their tribute to ‘kapwa kartonista’ Jose P. Rizal can be visited at the National Library in T.M. Kalaw on June 17. (PIA – BL Penera)
