MANILA, Philippines — Weeks before the Valentine concert season starts, Star Records’ top draws Erik Santos, Yeng Constantino, and Juris Fernandez already set the bar high with the show they held at the Glorietta Activity Center last Jan. 15.
Fans came in full force and they were treated to live renditions of their idols’ most recent hits including “Kulang Ako Kung Wala ka” by Erik, “Lapit” by Yeng, and “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” by Juris. Also at the event were Bugoy Drilon who performed “Nang Dahil Sa Pag-ibig,” Jovit Baldivino who essayed “Mula Sa Puso,” and Liezel Garcia who offered “Gisingin Ang Puso.”
Bulletin Entertainment caught up with Yeng, Erik and Juris backstage where we learned about their plans for 2012. Juris has just wrapped up recording an album set for release in Singapore while Erik is finalizing plans for a tour as well as a new album. Yeng, who had just released a live album, is thinking of releasing a techno-tinged album next.
The concert at Glorietta was an event by Inside Showbiz magazine. According to Executive Editor Rikka Dy Lim, their thrust remains the same.
“Instead of dwelling on intrigues and controversies, we’d rather make ours a visual treat in that we show celebrities in relaxed settings,” she said.
Since Lim came onboard last August, Inside Showbiz has featured the likes of Manny and Jinkee Pacquiao, Vice Ganda, and the Magalonas on the cover. Their January 2012 issue is bannered by beauty queens Shamcey Supsup and Venus Raj.
Asked why magazines still sell well despite the strong presence of online showbiz sites, Lim said, “Iba pa din kasi yung may hard copy ka. Madami pa ding fans ang may gusto na may napapa-autograph sila when they see their idols. Gusto ng mga fans ang may souvenir.”
Are they for or against heavy use of Photoshop?
“I’ve always thought that these days, photographers also need to be good editors. Since Inside Showbiz is going for a more natural setting for our featured celebrities, we use minimal Photoshop, only to clean up the images. Besides, lahat naman nakukuha sa tamang lighting and angle.”
Lim added that ultimately, the stars should strive to look good at all times since they owe that to their public.
