Erik Santos Not Inclined To Acting

MANILA, Philippines – While most of his contemporaries have already crossed over to acting, singer Erik Santos opts to stick it out with his first love, singing.

While the 29-year-old singer is fully aware that acting on teleseryes does assure one of wider exposure, acting isn’t really his cup of tea.

“Personal ko lang ‘to, ah… makikipagsabayan ka ba kanila Piolo [Pascual], makikipagsabayan ka ba kila John Lloyd [Cruz]?” was his rhetorical question in an interview with PEP.

Clearly, Erik is not the type who’d pursue endeavors that just might yield “half-baked” results.

“Dun ka na lang sa alam mong mag-e-excel ka, which is singing. For me, on my personal opinion, ‘yun ‘yung stand ko,” said Santos.

He fears that his acting would turn out to be lacking since, as he believes, it wasn’t his “career-pathing” to begin with.

“So, dun na lang ako sa singing which I can say na, ‘Ay eto, dito ako, dito ako nag-e-excel.’

“So, dito ako kumikita, dito ko napu-provide-an yung family ko, at dito ako masaya.”

Besides, the “Prince of Pop” would rather focus on and master his craft, which might lead to new ideas and innovations in making music.

Time surely flew fast for the “Star in a Million” champ who marks his 10th year anniversary in the industry in 2013.

How does he manage to stay on top of his game despite the proliferation of newcomers?

“Kung meron man kasing bagay na pareho kami ni Christian, ‘yun ‘yung dedication sa trabaho,” he said of his good friend and colleague Bautista.

The secret, according to him, is not to be picky when it comes to projects.

“’Yung ‘pag may dumating na work, tanggap lang nang tanggap nang tanggap. Kumbaga, ang hirap mag-say no, lalo na kung gusto mo ‘yung ginagawa mo,” he explained.

Although he sounds fairly comfortable with the idea of having competitors in the business, Santos acknowledged that he does feel threatened by these new rivals at times.

But, instead of succumbing to insecurity, Santos rechannels his energy towards improving in his craft.

“So, I think isa ‘yun sa mga nagpapalakas ng loob ko, na imbes na ma-threatened, to improve yourself more,” Santos said.
