Powerful ballads, remarkable originals, strong vocals, heartfelt renditions and a true Pop icon, Erik Santos has smoothly taken fans on a journey through a decade of good music and by remaining as one of the industry’s most conspicuous artists and celebrated OPM phenomena.
Erik Santos celebrates 10 years in the industry
Since that stellar moment during his rendition of “This Is The Moment” on ABS-CBN’s singing reality talent-search Star In A Million in 2003, the soul everyone witnessed from then wildcard finalist Erik Santos gave him the much desired triumph. The acquired triumph started opening a lot of doors for him and labeled Erik as the country’s “Prince of Pop.”
“This Is The Moment,” Erik’s first album that went platinum three months after its release was the first material that showcased his ground-breaking vocals and positioned him to the ballad stream. The album produced massive hits such as “Pagbigyang Muli,” “Di Ko Kaya” and “Kung Akin ang Mundo.” Erik’s Platinum sophomore album Loving You Now was released the following year and continued giving soulful ballads via hit singles “Who’s Loving You Now,” “I Will Never Leave You,” remake of Ella Mae Saison’s “Goodbye’s Not Forever” and “Bakit Sa Iniibig Ka?” an unforgettable collaboration with Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.
Erik ventured into something new on Your Love. Your Love featured Erik’s own rendition of popular all-time pop-rock songs. Your Love scored platinum hit singles like Neocolours’ “Say You’ll Never Go,” After Image’s “Next in Line” and Rockstar”s “Parting Time,” a belting piece duet with the RnB Princess Kyla. As a season breaker, Erik released his first Christmas album All I Want This Christmas with its carrier hit single “Ngayong Pasko.” In 2008, Star Records and Warner Music Philippines combined the two top pop balladeers in the country. Erik and Christian Bautista did a joint project titled Face-Off, a rundown of their hit singles in one album. “Never Give Up” was the hit duet released from the album.
The following year marked another milestone in Erik’s career. Music and ballad genius Jim Brickman blessed Erik with The Jim Brickman Songbook. A collection of Jim Brickman’s creations and performed by the Prince of Pop. “My Love Is Here” fronted the album to its platinum status. Erik’s seventh album Awit Para Sa’yo was his trademark ballad-full comeback album. The platinum-selling album rendered the originals “Kulang Ako Kung Wala Ka,” “Bakit Mahal Pa Rin Kita,” and the feel-good track “Hindi Na Magbabago.”
It wasn’t just an ordinary chain of albums for Erik.
In between his main albums, Erik has also done couple of special singles for EPs, LPs, soundtracks, compilations and many more. Singles for: Love Life by Boy Abunda, May Bukas Pa Album, Tamhayan Album, I-Star 15 OPM No. 1s and recently the very succesful Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs just to recall a few.
Erik’s discography just goes to show how his music is being expanded in an unbounded extent, not just on radio alone but through variety of platforms as well. Progressively heard on hit teleseryes and blockbuster movies over the last decade, Erik’s latest music offering is something that will delight his loyal listeners on these mediums. The Erik Santos Collection is a compilation of all the teleserye and movie theme songs he has recorded.
“Muling Buksan Ang Puso” (from Muling Buksan Ang Puso), “If You Asked Me To” (from Unofficially Yours), “Suddenly It’s Magic” (from Suddenly It’s Magic), “Ikaw” (from Ina, Kapatid, Anak), “Miss You Like Crazy” (from Miss You Like Crazy). “I’ll Never Go” (from One More Chance) and “Maging Sino Ka Man” (from Maging Sino Ka Man) are just a glimpse of the tracks in the album that summarize his ten years in the business and gave him the secondary title “King Of Teleserye Themesongs.”
