Erik Santos talks about heartbreak: ‘When I’m hurting mas masarap kumanta’

101813-Erik_Main.jpgAfter denying he was more than friends with fellow artist Angeline Quinto, Erik Santos said he is enjoying the single life. The 31-year-old balladeer admitted he sings more passionately when he is heartbroken. “Oo, when I’m hurting mas masarap kumanta kasi bawat nota, bawat word, ninamnam mo yan eh. Siguro naman kahit sino kapag masakit para sayo or ka-be-break mo lang or may pinagdadaanan ka, mas masarap kumanta. Masarap din naman kumanta pag masayang masaya ka. Kasi you feel inspired, parang ang gaan gaan ng pakiramdam mo. Siguro kahit anong estado ng buhay mo, kung ano man yung sitwasyon mo, yun ang maganda sa aming mga singers, kahit hindi kami magsalita, through our music nailalabas namin eh. So nasa audience na yun kung paano nila i-i-interpret yun,” he explained.

Erik said the only thing missing in his life right now is a girlfriend and he already has a very good idea of what qualities he is looking for in one. “Pag sobrang bait, pero siyempre she has to be very pretty. Kasi sa una naman physical. Di ba lahat naman tayo na-a-attract tayo dahil sa physical sa una, pero as you go along in the relationship, ang mas nakikita mo na yung panloob. So ang nakikita mo sa una yung superficial. Sa katagalan mas na-appreciate mo yung nasa loob niya so for me yun ang mas important,” he added.

The talented artist is celebrating his tenth year anniversary in showbiz with a concert entitled inTENse, a decade with the Prince of Pop on November 9, Saturday at the PICC Plenary Hall in the CCP Complex in Manila. Erik said he is happy with all the blessings he has and wants to live a positive life. “Hindi ako masyadong nagagalit, sobrang bihira. Kapag hindi maganda yung timpla ko, tahimik lang ako or medyo nagbibiro na lang ako, ganun. Kasi nga positive akong tao. As much as possible, inaalis ko yung mga negativity sa buhay. Maikli lang ang buhay eh. yan ang natutunan ko sa buhay ko. Ang ikli ng buhay para sayangin mo sa konting galit sa taong hindi na importante,” he said.

And as long as his loved ones are happy, Erik said he is happy as well. “Yung family ko stable naman. We live comfortably and siguro ang wish ko lang for my family is good health. Kasi for me, kahit gano ka ka-successful pero one member from your family ay hindi maganda ang condition, parang kulang eh. as of now kasi, kumpleto naman yung family ko and happy naman kami. Okay naman ako,” he admitted.

Even though he is happy to be single, Erik admitted he wants to start his own family five years from now. “Siyempre gusto ko ng happy family pero matagal tagal pa yun. Positive naman kasi ako na tao eh. Siyempre lahat tayo may mga frustrations sa buhay and minsan na-di-disappoint tayo sa ibang tao na nasa paligid natin pero I always look at the brighter side of things. So kung ano mang sitwasyon, may purpose si God kung bakit nangyayari ang mga bagay bagay. So pag may mga problemang dumarating or may mga araw na hindi maganda, nag-pe-pray lang ako and just be happy. Halimbawa malungkot ka ngayon, dpaat isi-switch mo agad. Magaling ako sa ganun eh. Iisipin ko for ten or 15 minutes, pinakamatagal na yung two hours then okay na ako. Yung outlook ko in life very positive,” he said.

Erik said he is happy to spend time with his friends when he has free time. “Ang dami kong kaibigan kaya pag may time talaga, I see to it na I go out with them, nakikipagkuwentuhan or i-invite ko sila sa bahay. Kahit yung mga elementary high school friends ko hanggang nagyon may communication ako sa kanila, even with my college friends,” he said.
