Erik Santos pulled all stops to give fans all their money’s worth during his 10-year anniversary concert “InTENse” held at the PICC Plenary Hall on Saturday.

Starting with the huge opening number featuring El Gamma Penumbra, a group popular for its inventive shadow-based performances, Santos treated fans to surprise after surprise, making obvious his efforts to keep them satisfied.

He assured fans early on that it would be night they won’t forget, and he more than delivered on that promise.

In a lengthy set that ran for more than three hours, Santos sang hit after hit – mostly bombastic ballads made popular as theme songs of various movies and TV shows – performing these tunes with effortless grace, showing all and sundry his vast improvements as a balladeer.

Getting out of his comfort zone, Santos also injected fresh, innovative numbers that showed a different side of his as a performer. At one point, he even sampled a bit of his dancing skills, holding his own with the G-Force and swaying to the beat of several popular disco tunes. He also allowed a peek of his acting abilities via a series of videos that showed him emoting ala John Lloyd Cruz opposite Bea Alonzo.

As if that wasn’t enough, the singer also busted out unexpected covers during the show, including an interesting mish-mash of Rihanna’s “Fly” and R. Kelly’s “I Believe I can Fly;” as with a dramatic take on Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again.”

Another huge part of the concert that had fans shrieking in delight included the appearances of several showbiz biggies.

There was Pops Fernandez, who came on stage wearing a tight-fitting dress that would have probably made ex-hubby Martin Nievera drool; Piolo Pascual, who simply had to saunter onstage to make fans scream themselves hoarse; Yeng Constantino and Angeline Quinto, who rocked the stage with their intense cover of Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now;” the riotous duo of Rufa Mae Quinto and Ai Ai delas Alas; and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, whose naughty jokes about Tootsie Guevara and Eva Kalaw made audiences laugh to no end.

Santos ended the show with a stirring rendition of the song that made him a name in the business: “This Is The Moment.”

And when he sang “…This is the moment, the greatest moment, of them all…” we could only applaud in agreement.
