All-male singing trio Team Tres Kantos was proclaimed as the first grand celebriteam champion of ABS-CBN’s reality singing competition We Love OPM: Original Pinoy Music.

Composed of Bugoy Drilon, Jovit Baldovino, and Dominador ‘Daddy D’ Aviola, the group took home P2 million. Half of their winning will be donated to their chosen charity, Casa San Miguel.

Hosted by Anne Curtis, the show’s grand sing-offs was held at Resorts World Manila in Pasay City on Sunday night, July 17.

For the grand finals, the finalists paid tribute to the music of OPM icon Ryan Cayabyab, who also served as the finale’s guest judge.

With Erik Santos as their coach, Tres Kantos performed their version of Maestro’s song ‘Nais Ko.’

One of the mentors, Nyoy Volante, was left speechless after the team’s performance.

He told the trio, ‘Grabe kayo Erik, wala kayong patawad! Talaga naman, alam ko every time nagkakaroon ng performance ang Tres Kantos, talagang palaging yun nga, walang patawad, e! Pumapatay kayo ng ibang grupo talaga e, ang galing!’

Mr. C only had good words for Tres Kantos. He told the group, ‘Nakakabaliw! Sobrang ganda, actually! I was very surprised! As a matter of fact, sabi ko, ‘Wow! Hindi ko alam… Kanta ko ba ‘to?’

The composer added, ‘I almost thought it was a new song so congratulations guys, Bugoy… Ang galing! Congratulations, Erik! Fantastic!’

Erik was last to give his comment and expressed how proud he is of the group’s performance.

He told them, ‘Sa palagay ko as their mentor, sobrang proud ako sa kanila, di iba? Sa bawat awit na kinanta nila, sa bawat konsepto na ginawa nila all throughout this compeyition, I think sila yung grupo na best nag-represent ng OPM. And this performance, this performance is their best gift to all Filipino people around the world!’

After their performance, Tres Kantos scored a total of 80.45% of combined public votes and judges score.

The trio bested two other teams on the competition: O Divas mentored by KZ Tandingan and Oh My Girls mentored by Yeng Constantino.

Oh My Girls—composed of young talents Ylona Garcia, Krissha Viaje, and Alexa Ilaca—placed second after garnering a 58.27% combined score.

O Divas—composed of Emmanuelle Vera, Liezel Garcia, and Klarisse de Guzman—ranked third with 57.78%.

In an interview after the competition, members of Tres Kantos expressed their reaction to their triumph. Bugoy said, ‘I am so happy, nervous, excited, happy. Mixed emotions.’

Former It’s Showtime‘s Tawag Ng Tanghalan contestant Dominador thanked the people behind the show for choosing him as a participant. He said, ‘I’m really thankful for everyone behind this program. Why I am here, I owe it to all of them.’

Jovit was also grateful for winning a Kapamilya competition for the second time after becoming the first grand champion of Pilipinas Got Talent back in 2010.

He said, ‘We really can’t explain how we feel. This is the second time I was named grand champion and I felt what’s it like to compete again.’

Other celebriteams that competed on the reality show include: Richard Poon’s Voice Next Door composed of Kyle Echarri, Bailey May, and Juan Karlos Labajo; Jay-R’s Hot Spots composed of Marrki Stroem, Ryan Sy, and Alex Diaz; and Nyoy Volante’s Power Chords composed of Kaye Cal, Marlo Mortel, and Marion Aunor.
