kq artikTwo of this generation’s highly recognized and established singers come as one in a dream concert that promises to deliver the goods.

Erik Santos and Angeline-Quinto, their shining stars intertwined by virtue of their stellar record as familiar voices to local movie and teleserye theme songs, are joining hands as featured acts in an anticipated major concert on Aug. 15 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The show, produced by Cornerstone Concerts and simply billed Erik Santos and Angeline Quinto at the Araneta Coliseum is expected to provide a kind of stage spectacle rarely seen by concertgoers. It is also far from being just a simple set but promises to be grand for its “talked about concept” – three concerts, two musical royalties, one night.

Both Erik and Angeline are crowned as this generation’s “King and Queen of Theme Songs,” respectively, with Erik having sung 37 themes to his high-valued name while Angeline scoring 35 so far in her steadily moving music career for teleseryes and films. The numbers are mind-boggling, the effect to music fans, encompassing.

s6_0540In the Philippines, wives are always seen as the victims of separation. For filmmaker GB Sampedro, the time has come for Filipinos to understand that husbands too suffer in failed marriages.

To prove his point, Sampedro compiled a story of “six men with six failed marriages” into a single film fittingly titled Separados. The movie is an official entry to the New Breed Category of the 10th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival opening today at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Pasay City.

“Dito kasi, kapag separation, lalaki ang may kasalanan, ang babae yong kawawa. With my movie, I want to show the other side of the story,” Sampedro, who is a bona fide “separado” himself, told The Manila Times in an exclusive interview.

erik_santos_s6_0541Asked if the story is in some ways personal, the director admitted, “Yes, it is very personal and close to me. Masasabi kong, majority ng emosyon dito galing sa akin. Most of the characters galing din sa akin.”

But why did it take him years to actually make this movie?

But now times are changing with more and more Filipinos dealing with marital issues.

111613-erik_main.jpgPrince of Pop Erik Santos held a concert at the PICC Plenary Hall last Saturday, November 9, for his one-night-only 10th anniversary concert. Titled InTENse, the concert showcased the same intense passion and hunger for innovation that Erik has and continues to thrive on in his decade-long presence in the business.
Setting the mood that night was the shadow dance performance of El Gamma Penumbra who opened the show with a dreamy flashback of his humble beginnings as a budding singer stumbling from one local fiesta singing contest and audition to another.
Erik performed his lengthiest concert to date—spanning almost three-and-a-half hours—for his fans.
While he is known for his ballads made into teleserye theme songs, Erik made sure that there was something for all types of listeners as he did mash ups and covers of international pop songs like Nicki Minaj’s “Fly” and R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” and Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” and Britney Spears’s “Oops I Did It Again” and then a bunch of songs from internationally-acclaimed Broadway musical Les Miserables, which he said was one of his personal favorites.
